Do You Believe In Magic
The other day my son had to go to the doctor. He was scared to go, so, an idea popped into my mind. I told him that in my pantry I had some “bravery dust.” I said that all I had to do was sprinkle a little bit on him and he wouldn’t be scared of anything. Well he was scared of that idea but it intrigued my girls. They asked me to put some on them. So I grabbed my jar of assorted sprinkles and I sprinkled a little bit on each one of them. I asked them how they felt and they said, “I’m not scared of ANYTHING!” I started thinking about imagination and the idea of “magic.” I know some people are put off by the word magic but I’m not talking about the incantation, hocus-pocus, blood sacrifice type of magic. I’m simply talking about the kind of magic that Disney creates where it causes you to suspend reality and step inside your imagination. I used a little bit of “magic” to lend some of my faith and bravery to my kids. You see I knew that nothing was going to happen to my son but he didn’t; so I took my bravery and I put it into my hands, in the form of sprinkles, and I released it to my kids. I caused them to imagine that those sprinkles somehow invaded their bodies and created a force field to protect them from fear. It’s cute to think of kids believing those silly things but what about us as adults? Aren’t we too old and wise for “magic?”
If you’ve ever been to Disney World, as an adult, you know that we are not too old for magic! From the moment you walk through the turnstile and step onto Disney’s main street you feel that “magical” feeling, in fact it overtakes all your senses! All around you are these adorable stores and storefronts resembling an old town, many of the Disney characters are walking around and interacting with the guests, and you’re captivated by the excitement and elation from everyone around you. That’s not even mentioning the amazing smells; who knew magic had a smell! Then you look up you see the ever-famous Cinderella’s castle in the distance. No matter what age you are and no matter how many times you’ve experienced it the “magic” never dissipates. Disney has figured out how to tap into each individual person’s imagination in a way that creates a “magical” experience for everyone EVEN adults!
I believe that magic is a lot like faith. The Bible says that faith is : “The substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.” My paraphrase is: You believe in something that you imagine even though it may just be an illusion right now.
Maybe you are hoping for something, right now, but are finding it hard to have faith. Maybe, in the spirit of the Christmas season and all the “magic” it brings; you need to borrow someone else’s faith. Maybe, much like my son, you need someone else to sprinkle some bravery dust on you or maybe you call it faith dust or whatever form of magic you need in order to help you believe that what you want God to do He will do.
